How to Install Solaris in VirtualBox – Part 2

Solaris is a cross-platform operating system that is known for its scalability, performance and security.

VirtualBox is a powerful virtualization software that runs in x86 platform. It allows various operating systems to be installed in a single pc. And Solaris is one operating system that can be installed in VirtualBox.

After creating the virtual disk image, installation of the Solaris operating system follows.

Run VirtualBox, click the Solaris button created in Part 1,

Settings

In General options, click the “Advanced” tab and setup the boot order.  Make sure that CD/DVD-Rom is on top of the list.

CD/DVD

Mount the CD/DVD-ROM where the installation CD is inserted.  If the installation CD was not burned, locate the ISO image of the installer.

Network

Select the type of network.  Choose bridged Adapter to allow the installed OS to connect to the Internet and the local area network (LAN).

Start

Start the installation by clicking the “Start” button.

Follow the instructions that appears on the screen.  Some screens are displayed below.

    thank you, you made my day. Very helpful topic, however, you may mention that users with more than one CPU must dedicate all CPU’s to the system, otherwise, installation would not proceed.

    Hi,

    SUB: Fatal error

    I was following your steps to install solaris on virtual box.
    After blue screen to select keyboard language, I got a black screen prompting to press Enter. I did and after that, black screen shifts to left and I get a fatal error message and disappears immediately. Later in the same screen, it prompts to select a language with [0-9] options. I selected 0 as I want english, but there will some special chars displayed on black screen and does nothing. It keeps asking to select a language… any help..?
