How to Install LAMP in Ubuntu

LAMP is a collaboration of various open source applications. LAMP which stands for Linux, Apache, MySQL and PHP/Perl/Python is widely used in hosting popular dynamic web pages.

  • Linux is the open source operating system created by Linus Benedict Torvalds while he was a computer science student at University of Helsinki. It has gained popularity and support from the open source community.
  • The Apache HTTP server has been one of the most popular web server since April 1996. It is a project of the Apache Software Foundation to develop and to maintain an open-source web server for modern operating systems including UNIX, unix-like operating systems as well as Windows operating systems.
  • MySQL is the world’s most popular open source database system. It is currently maintained by Sun Microsystems.
  • PHP which means PHP:Hypertext Preprocessor is a scripting language that is widely used for web development and can be embedded into html.
